This is a fast world we live in. This is a tough world. One has to be alert all the time to respond to all the hardships that the world throws at us. In all this work and effort and the struggle we tend to convert ourselves into fortresses so that no harm can come to us. But unfortunately most of the times these walls that we created to protect us stop the positivity from outside from reaching us as well. And whatever positivity we have within the walls keeps getting depleted. So what can be done to fix that? I say let’s smuggle some positive energy into our lives. I have a few tricks that I use to accomplish this and I am happy to share them.
Use positive words / Avoid negative words – This one is highly effective and I have been using this for some time. Try to use negative words as little as possible. Instead of saying “bad” you can say “not good” and maybe later replace that with “can be better”. I am all for calling a spade a spade but this way a lot of negative words are removed from our daily lives. Elimination of negativity helps in positivity to come to you. Please note that I am not asking you to use euphemisms but to deliberately try to not use negative words. Although saying cold hard “NO” to bad influences is an exception.
Do something that makes people say nice things to you – I know it is a good habit to always be nice to people and what not but that’s not always possible. One is hardly able to carry on the fight with all the problems in life that there is no time or energy left to be nice to others. But still do it. An honest thank you directed at you works wonders in adding positive vibes in your life. Compliment someone and see them smile. Praise someones work and accept the good will. These are small acts but well, who has the time to do great deeds.
Adopt a constructive hobby – Even if you are not the most talented or creative person in the world there is some constructive activity that you can partake in. It could be as simple as cooking a basic meal to as complex as writing a sonnet but build something. The process of creation has an inherent unparalleled positive vibe to it and you will feel it anew every single time. If nothing else is possible, start jogging. I am already happy having written this post.
Try new things – Whenever you try something new, it comes with an element of surprise with itself. You are wondering if you will like it or if it is as good an idea as it seems. If you do like it it’s all well and good and if you don’t then you have a story. All in all I feel the process of trying something new usually leaves you with a little more positive energy than before you started.
Identify and eliminate the negatives – We have a lot of things in our lives that bring negativity to us. They could be habits, actions or people. You need to identify them and remove them. You don’t need the job that makes you miserable, those are not the true friends who bring you down and you don’t need to smoke to survive. Elimination of sadness is in itself a cause of happiness.
*Read happy books and watch happy movies *– I don’t think this needs to be explained. Watch a good comedy once in a while and read a light book even if you are a great fan of heavy drama and intricate plot. Light fun is good fun. My latest read and a recommendation to you all is The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared. No matter what your usual taste in books is, you will enjoy this.
These are just some of the things that I do add positivity in my life on small act at a time. I would love to hear if you have any such tips or tricks to share. You can share it here in the comments or catch me on twitter at @akhilrex
